But because I knew they'd attack me before long, I got archers into my cities and started pumping out legions, forming them into armies. I blocked both from rapid expansion, as usual, claiming space for my own expansion. Last night, I found myself on a continent between America and Germany. I got into the habit of building armies of my own early on. But because that happened so predictably, for the first time I learned to deal with it. The AI players would start out friendly, but they'd almost all morph into dangerous, relentless enemies after a certain trigger point. And if I did manage to defend, or even conquer, it was such a long, agonizing process that it spoiled the game for me.Īt first, I hated Civ Rev because it seemed like the most vicious version of all. More often than not, it spelled doom for my lovingly built civilization. In all earlier versions of Civ, I dreaded war. One thing that happened was the inevitable-war. I only had time to play for fifteen minutes before I was called away, but they were a satisfying fifteen minutes, and quite a bit happened in that short time. Then I popped the cart into my DS last night and started a game (on King level, since I needed to brush up). I read a little about it and learned some things I hadn't known.

And I thought, I haven't played that in a while. So yesterday, I stumbled up on a fan site for Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution. The game also takes long enough to load that I'll walk off and get a cup of tea while I'm waiting. On anything bigger than a tiny map, there's some significant downtime. I'm playing Civ5 on a netbook computer, though, and the CPU is a bit taxed. Early on, I even lost entire games to AI invasions. I'm sometimes that way myself, though and I've certainly lost some cities to AI attacks. Though I haven't tried it on higher levels, I have to admit the AI seems militarily wimpy and confused. I now know why others complain about the war-making capability of the AI. I suppose I could have won a domination victory a few times, but I didn't try I was enjoying my building and expanding too much. I keep wanting to win a cultural victory, but I never even get very close to that. And I've won a couple space-race victories in addition to the usual time-limit victories.

Still playing at Prince level (which is a little embarrassing to me, but I'll take it step by step), but I'm winning pretty consistently. I've been playing Civilization V quite a bit, and I've finally caught on to it.
